You can find out more from their website. The cover art is pretty cool! Kinda looks like a new Halo game. :-)
MentalMetal314 Rock Rumors
I'm a big fan of music. Mostly rock music from 80s. I'm always looking for new information about some of my favorite bands. I bet a lot of you don't even know that some of these bands are still touring and putting out new music. They don't get radio play anymore but most of them are still alive and well and I'm going to use this blog to let you know what they are up to and the new music they are putting out.

You Asked About "Mike and The Mechanics"
I went out and did some checking on this band and while I was not a big fan back in the 80s, I did like a couple of their songs. The interesting thing about looking into these bands you tend to learn something you never knew. In fact today, I learned something about the band that many of you probably already know. I had no idea that Mike is Mike Rutherford who was the guitarist for Genesis. That was an interesting little fact that I never knew.
The band is still around with a different line up but they just finished up a concert on Sept 5th at the University Of Surrey. Here is a link to their website They released a new album called "The Singles 1985-2013" which looks like a compilation of the old stuff and some new tracks.

News Flash For All You Bon Jovi Fans!
This is old news as well but in case you didn't know, Richie Sambora is no longer in the band and now you are left with Jon, Tico, and David. The other 2 guys I consider session players even though Hugh has been with them for a number of years. I left the Bon Jersey camp a few years back. I'm not sure whats going on with this band anymore. The last couple of albums were horrible IMO. Of course, I'm stuck in the 80s with "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey". Go back to those days and this band kicked some serious ass! Hit after hit. They were always on the radio and those videos! Livin' on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, Blood on Blood, Homebound train etc... were all just killer tunes and they still have a place on my phone today! I'll go on record and say "Wanted Dead or Alive" is probably one of the best songs ever recorded! All I have to say is bring Richie back, head to Canada, get drunk, smoke some weed, and record a great album again. Stop trying to fit into mainstream. You have a ton of money so give one back to the ones who made you famous in the first place. That's all we ask.

Former REO Guitarist Gary Richrath Passes Sept 13th.
This is a bit of old news but I didn't know about it until recently. I love the old REO Speedwagon music. I like some of the newer stuff too but it wasn't the same as it was in the 80s. I remember getting a case of beer from my supplier (thanks Mark!) I'm pretty sure we were legal back in 1989 at the ripe old of 17 and 18...anyway my buddies and I would drive around the old dirt roads where I grew up high in the endless mountains of Cameron County, PA. We had a few secret places where we could go and wouldn't get caught by the cops and I'll take those secrets to the grave. Once we found our spot, we would stop, build a fire, and crack open a few (usually til the case was gone). Try doing that today and getting away with it! REO's "The Hits" was one of those cassettes that got played a lot and "Ridin The Storm Out" was one of our favorites jams. They changed a lot once Gary Richrath left the band but I've always liked their music.

Some Old But Recent News on JOURNEY
If you know me, you know that I've always been a big fan. I still am to some degree. I'm not too thrilled to say that the current/former drummer was arrested over the summer and now faces some serious jail time. I say bring back Steve Smith anyway (he was my favorite) but that probably won't happen. I don't know Dean's current status but he won't be back anytime soon, if ever! The guy didn't some nasty things to his girlfriend. Plus I think Journey is probably just about done anyway. I could be wrong and I hope I am. There have been rumors of Perry coming back for one last hurrah but don't hold your breath. Those rumors have been around for years. If you want to read about the drummer's demise here is the link. On a positive note, they are still on tour but I think the only date on their website is Oct 22nd. You can find out more by checking out their official website.
